Homegrown Murder

Homegrown Murder is a paper sample booklet of Neenah papers that is presented as a narrative-driven guide on killing houseplants. I wanted to create a more engaging experience for potential customers so they could better envision how their work may look printed on papers similar to those from the sample. This more innovative approach invites people to interact with the pages, unfolding them and even ripping them out to be repurposed as bookmarks or seed markers.

As part of my process, I integrated printmaking. Starting with linoleum block carvings, I printed them by hand before photographing them and masking them digitally to apply as backgrounds or illustrations in my booklet. I feel as though the imperfect nature of printmaking provides a beautiful and more organic approach to background textures. In addition, I was able to further demonstrate the ideas of the passages by utilizing the printing process in different ways. For example, in the section on drowning plants, I purposefully over inked my block. This created an oversaturated and explosive look, even after being digitally processed, that better illustrated the section.
